about

This song is special to me as it always reminds me of my grandmother on my Dad's side. She had a fantastic garden: blueberries, raspberries, beans, cucumbers, rhubarb, roses!!, bushes, fish ponds, flowers. It was a world to explore and the nostalgia inherent in this song takes me to that place of wonder and security every time.

lyrics

Dear, Dear Old Southland
I hear you calling me. Your calling me.
And I how I long, how I long to hear once again
That same old song
Down by my Kentucky home.

Dear Old Southland
For you my heart is yearning.
You know it's yearning.
And how I long, how I long
To roam once again
Down by that same old Swanee shore.
